ESCAPE FROM FRAMES

[599]from "NA"-27 May 2002:
I have a Fine Arts Puzzle 100 piece 22x28 size. The series is 1704 copyright Playtime House Rochester New York. It is not like your usual interlocking type puzzle. They are cut funny and they don't stay together very well at all. Each piece is different and does not connect or interlock. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what this might be or how old etc.
Thanks for your help.

from Jim McW--13 June 2002:
The puzzle was probably produced in the 1950's. Jigsaw puzzles started out as non-interlocking. More and more manufacturers began making their puzzles interlocking in the 1950's and 1960's.

Hello!
I have a half-dozen or so Eaton puzzles and am interested in finding out about others, and yet for all my searching, I simply cannot find any information on this brand, or any references to it. Can you help aid me in my quest? Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
"GFDL"

from Jim McW--16 June 2002:
We believe that Eaton was producing puzzles by the early 1970's. In no. 407, Nancy Ballhagen has told us that "Eaton stopped making puzzles 5-8 years ago. Their factory was acquired by Nordevco." That would suggest that they stopped producing puzzles in the latter half of the 1990's.

Well, after trying to find one in our collection, and looking for one on internet auction sites, I begin to see that it might be a bit difficult to find one. Still, I suspect that there is one out there, and I hope some kind person will write in to let us know of it, and maybe even send a picture !
Thanks, Jim McW

from Jim McW--21 June 2002:
Nancy Ballhagen wrote to tell us that they have "a puzzle shaped like a '55 Tbird with lots of other classic cars painted within the outline of the car" and that they "had a puzzle with '55, '56, and '57 tbirds on it but have sold out on it". She was not sure if they would have it again, in the future. You might go to our LINKS page and look for MISSOURI PUZZLES.

Hi,
Would you be able to tell where one can buy Fairchild puzzles? I just a puzzle called "The Shape", Dresden Figurine and would like to get the Basket of Kittens. These puzzles are quite pretty and very unusual.
Thank you very much for your help in this matter.

from Jim McW--21 June 2002:
You can see a little on this topic in no. 38, on Page 3. As far as we know, Fairchild puzzles have not been produced for at least ten or fifteen years. However, they turn up in the secondary market frequently.

[603]from "anonymous"-18 June 2002:
Hi, I found a puzzle today that has me a bit excited. It is a 1971 NFL puzzle and on the bottom it simply says it was made for the NFL by Springbok. It isn't numbered and has no Springbok logos, trademarks, etc. anywhere.
The puzzle is round and the picture is a football kaleidoscope with mostly red white and black colors. I haven't worked it yet, but counted the pieces -- there are exactly 500. They have red backs.NFL puzzle box"NFL puzzle, box" NFL puzzle"NFL puzzle", by SPRINGBOKTM, 1971.
Do you know anything about these sorts of puzzles that were not made for retail but for a large client? It really is in nice condition...not like new, certainly, but very good.
Any information or pointers would be nice.
I appreciate your help.
Thanks,

I have recently seen some puzzles by artist Rebecca Barker. They are of quilts and I believe the series is called Quiltscapes. There are 8 different pictures. Can you tell me the different names of the 8 puzzles and where I might locate them? I have "Barn Raising" which was given to me as a gift and am interested in collecting the rest.

I am looking for a Springbok puzzle. Not sure of title. It is of various and assorted Salt and Pepper Shakers. I also want the Springbok "Call To Freedom". Thanks so much!!

from Jim McW--25 June 2002:
You are probably referring to no. 4462, "Salt and Pepper Shakers", 1991. As for "Call to Freedom", we cannot find that title. We find no. 4447, "Freedom From Want", 1989, by Norman Rockwell; no. 2099, "Freedom's Trail", 1981; no. 2442, "Words of Freedom".
Does anyone know the title "Call to Freedom"?
Thanks, Jim McW
***************
from Macboof--27 June 2002:
Hey Jim~
"Call to Freedom" is a "new" Springbok. 1500 pieces. PZL4801. Flag with Declaration of Independence kinda superimposed over it. Was put out in 2001 (I think). They must have made this one in very limited numbers because it's extremely hard to get.
